How is PPF maturity calculated?
PPF interest is compounded once a year. If you deposit before 5 April, the whole year's deposit earns interest that year.
F = P × ((1 + i)ⁿ − 1) ÷ i × (1 + i)
P = yearly deposit, i = rate ÷ 100, n = years
PPF rules at a glance
A PPF account runs for 15 financial years. You must deposit at least ₹500 a year and can deposit up to ₹1.5 lakh. After 15 years you can extend it in blocks of 5 years, with or without new deposits.
Tax benefits
Under the old tax regime, deposits qualify for deduction under Section 80C. The interest and the maturity amount are tax-free. Under the new regime, there's no deduction for deposits, but interest and maturity stay tax-free.

Frequently asked questions
What is the current PPF interest rate?
The government sets the PPF rate every quarter. It is 7.1% a year for October–December 2026, unchanged for several years. If it changes, enter the new rate above.
Can I withdraw from PPF before 15 years?
Partial withdrawals are allowed from the 7th financial year, within limits. Early closure is allowed after 5 years in specific cases such as serious illness or higher education.
What if I deposit in instalments during the year?
Interest is calculated monthly on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of each month, so later deposits earn less. This calculator assumes one deposit before 5 April each year.
These results are estimates for planning only, not financial, investment or tax advice. Rates and rules change, and your bank, fund house or employer may calculate slightly differently. Check with them or a qualified adviser before you decide.
