Area formulas
Area is the flat space inside a shape, measured in square units. Each shape has its own formula:
Rectangle = length × width
Triangle = ½ × base × height
Circle = π × r²
Trapezoid = (a + b) ÷ 2 × h
Ellipse = π × a × b
Mixing units
Each box has its own unit menu, so you can enter a length in feet and a width in inches. Everything is converted before calculating, and the result is shown in several units at once.
Area of an irregular plot
Split the plot into rectangles and triangles, find the area of each, and add them up. For a four-sided plot with no right angles, draw a diagonal and use the three-sides triangle option for each half.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the area of a room in square feet?
Multiply the length by the width in feet. A 12 ft × 10 ft room is 120 sq ft. If you measured in feet and inches, choose “in” for the inches or convert them to decimal feet first (6 in = 0.5 ft).
How do I convert square feet to square metres?
Multiply by 0.0929. For example, 1,000 sq ft is about 92.9 m². The calculator shows both at once.
How many square feet are in a gaj?
One gaj (square yard) is 9 square feet, or about 0.836 m².
How do I find the area of a triangle without the height?
Choose “Triangle (three sides)” and enter all three side lengths. The calculator uses Heron's formula.
