How is attendance calculated?
Attendance is the share of classes you were present for. To reach a target, each class you attend raises both the attended and held counts.
Attendance % = attended ÷ held × 100
Classes needed = ⌈(target × held − attended) ÷ (1 − target)⌉ · Can miss = ⌊(attended − target × held) ÷ target⌋
The 75% rule
Most Indian universities and boards, following UGC and AICTE norms, require at least 75% attendance in each subject to sit the end-semester exam, with limited condonation for medical or other genuine reasons. Check your college's rule, as some count attendance subject-wise.
Plan ahead
Missing early is costly: with few classes held, each absence moves your percentage a lot. Use the 'can miss' figure as a buffer for illness, not a target.

Frequently asked questions
How many classes do I need to attend for 75%?
If you've attended 56 of 80 (70%), you need to attend the next 16 classes in a row: 72 of 96 is exactly 75%.
Is attendance counted subject-wise?
Often yes. Many universities need 75% in each subject separately, so run the calculator for each subject.
Do medical leaves count?
Usually they don't count as present, but colleges may condone a shortage of up to 10–15% with a valid medical certificate.
