How the conversion works

Every unit is converted through bits per second. One byte is 8 bits, so byte-based speeds are 8 times the bit-based number.

MB/s = Mbps ÷ 8

1 Mbps = 0.125 MB/s

Why downloads look slower than your plan

A 100 Mbps plan downloads at most 12.5 MB/s, because 100 megabits ÷ 8 = 12.5 megabytes. Protocol overhead makes the real figure a little lower.

Frequently asked questions

How many MB/s is 100 Mbps?

12.5 MB/s (100 ÷ 8).

Is Mbps the same as MBps?

No. Mbps is megabits per second; MBps (MB/s) is megabytes per second, 8 times larger.

How fast is 1 Gbps in MB/s?

125 MB/s.
