How do you convert a decimal to a fraction?

Write the decimal over a power of 10 with as many zeros as decimal places, then divide top and bottom by their highest common factor.

0.375 = 375/1000 = 3/8 (HCF 125)

Repeating: x = 0.(3) → 10x − x = 3 → x = 3/9 = 1/3

Repeating decimals

Every repeating decimal is a fraction. Multiply by a power of 10 that shifts one full block of repeating digits, subtract the original, and the repeating tail cancels out.
