What are the odds?
A fair coin lands heads or tails with equal chance, and every flip is independent of the ones before it.
P(heads) = P(tails) = 1 ÷ 2 = 50%
P(n heads in a row) = (1 ÷ 2)ⁿ
Streaks happen more than you'd think
In 100 flips it's normal to see a run of 6 or 7 heads or tails in a row. Past flips don't change the next one: after five heads, the chance of heads is still 50%.
Flipping many coins
Flip 10 coins and you might get 7 heads. Flip 10,000 and the share of heads will be very close to 50%. This is the law of large numbers.
