How is fuel cost calculated?
Divide the distance by your mileage to get the litres used, then multiply by the price per litre:
Fuel (L) = distance (km) ÷ mileage (km/L)
Cost = fuel (L) × price (₹/L)
Cost per km = price ÷ mileage
Use your real-world mileage
Company-claimed (ARAI) mileage is measured in ideal test conditions. Real highway mileage is often 10–20% lower, and city mileage lower still. Use the figure from your own fill-ups for the best estimate (our Mileage Calculator can work it out).
CNG and EVs
For CNG, enter mileage in km per kg and the price per kg; the maths is the same. For an electric car, use our Electricity Bill Calculator with the car's kWh per 100 km.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the petrol cost for a trip?
Divide the distance by your car's mileage and multiply by the petrol price. 350 km at 15 km/L and ₹103/L costs about ₹2,403.
What is cost per km?
Fuel price ÷ mileage. At ₹103/L and 15 km/L, each km costs about ₹6.87 in fuel.
Does this include tolls and parking?
No, only fuel. Add tolls (FASTag), parking and driver charges separately.
