IST to EST, PST and GMT: Time Difference Between India, the US and UK
How far India is ahead of the US, UK and Europe in winter and summer, when the clocks change, and when to schedule calls.

Calls with clients in New York, family in London or a team in California all start with the same question: what time is it there? India keeps one time all year, IST, UTC+5:30. The US and UK move their clocks twice a year, so the gap with India changes by an hour. Here are the gaps, the dates they change, and a quick way to plan calls.
Time difference from India
| Region | Winter: India is ahead by | Summer: India is ahead by |
|---|---|---|
| US Eastern (New York, Toronto) | 10:30 hrs (EST) | 9:30 hrs (EDT) |
| US Central (Chicago, Dallas) | 11:30 hrs (CST) | 10:30 hrs (CDT) |
| US Pacific (Los Angeles, Seattle) | 13:30 hrs (PST) | 12:30 hrs (PDT) |
| UK (London) | 5:30 hrs (GMT) | 4:30 hrs (BST) |
| Central Europe (Paris, Berlin) | 4:30 hrs (CET) | 3:30 hrs (CEST) |
US Eastern time = IST − 10:30 in winter, IST − 9:30 in summer
So 8:00 PM in India is 9:30 AM in New York in January, and 10:30 AM in July. London is 5:30 hours behind India in winter and 4:30 in summer.

When the clocks change
- US and Canada: clocks go forward on the second Sunday of March and back on the first Sunday of November.
- UK and Europe: forward on the last Sunday of March, back on the last Sunday of October.
For a couple of weeks in March and again around late October to early November, the US has changed and Europe hasn't (or the other way round). Recurring meetings with both often shift by an hour during those weeks. Check the converter for any date in those gaps.
