How is percentage converted to CGPA?
It's the CGPA-to-percentage formula in reverse, so use the one your board or university uses.
CBSE / DU: CGPA = % ÷ 9.5 · Anna University: CGPA = % ÷ 10
GTU: CGPA = % ÷ 10 + 0.5 · VTU (older), AKTU: CGPA = % ÷ 10 + 0.75
When you need it
Some admission forms and job portals ask for CGPA while your marksheet shows percentage, or the other way round. Convert with the formula of the institution that issued the marksheet.
Use the official figure for applications
Universities set their own rules and sometimes change them by scheme or year. Mumbai University withdrew its conversion formula in January 2026 and now issues percentage on request, and SPPU uses grade-band equations. For admissions and jobs, use the conversion printed on your marksheet or issued by your university.
